Sarah Martin is an emerging South African artist based in the dynamic city of Johannesburg. After a career in Speech Pathology and Audiology, Sarah made the bold decision in 2021 to pursue her true passion for art, establishing her creative practice, eSJay Artistry. Her work explores the intersection of memory, emotion, and connection, brought to life through mediums such as watercolour, acrylic, coloured pencil, graphite, and gouache.
Sarah's artistic practice is deeply rooted in mindfulness and an appreciation for natural materials. She creates unique watercolours using pigments made from soil collected from meaningful locations and paints with wine to capture a sense of place and narrative. These experiments with natural pigments connect her work to themes of presence, transformation, and the grounding nature of art.
Inspired by her background in audiology, which centres on communication and the human experience, Sarah’s art often reflects themes of mental health, resilience, and emotional healing. Her pieces balance meticulous detail with evocative storytelling, offering viewers a contemplative space to connect with universal yet deeply personal themes.
